About Us

Hi, we're the mother and son team who wrote the "Cheer 'Em On Sports Guide". It was a lot of fun writing the book and we've been so happy to see the warm response it's gotten from readers. It means a lot to us that we can help girls of all ages enjoy sports by learning them in a fun, easy, and approachable way. (We think that from 0-115 years old, there's always a little bit of "girl" in you somewhere, so we use the term affectionately and universally!)

Below is a quick blurb to tell you about each of us individually, just in case it might be of interest. Thanks a lot for your interest in "Cheer 'Em On" and for helping to make it the success it's been!

All the best,

Carol & Clay Cavanaugh

About Carol

Carol is a loyal sports fan who enjoys playing games as well as being a sideline supporter. From the days of high school pep squad rallies to current professional ball games, she's continually cheering on her favorite teams.

With a technical writing background, Carol knew she could combine her skills and Clay's sports understanding to produce a user-friendly book that removes the mystery from some of today's popular team sports. "Cheer 'Em On Sports" was born and developed to simplify our lives!

When she's not working on projects with Clay, Carol's fun time includes watching sports, playing games, running, reading, and experi-menting with new recipes.

About Clay

Clay is a sports lover and former teacher, so when the idea of writing a book to teach girls and women about the joys of sports came up, he instantly loved it. His interest in sports is as broad as there are ways to compete (which makes tearing him away from the TV whenever the Olympics roll around a bit of a pain!). But he especially loves football and basketball at the college level.

While football is one of his favorite sports, as a kid, Clay particularly remembers struggling to understand the rules and strategies of the game. With that difficulty firmly implanted in his memory, his biggest goal with the book was to make sure that football and all the other sports in the book are completely painless and, dare we say, fun to learn?!
